A record really. I just liked the reflections on the wet pavement. Thought of cropping tighter to shift the white wall but looked out of balance? Also considered removing one or two of the white fittings and notices? Shot in Whitby in January, a wet day.
EOS 7D with 18/125 OS Sigma. Aperture priority f8 and ISO400. Not much light. 1/125 sec. Propped on wall corner.

Great shot of a timeless location. Ideal for either mono or sepia conversion. Considering you were close there is no distortion or converging verticals. Shot further back would have given you more cropping options and maybe a portrait crop showing above the shop. But you may have been limited by the width of the street. Luckily there were no plastic rubbish bags or yellow lines to be cloned out. Sharp with lovely deep backs and reds. Regards
Nice shot Paul - ages since I've been to Whitby - looks like nothing has changed ![]()
A nice record of a Whitby shop Paul. I don't usually do mods for your uploads Paul but you may find it worthwhile in this case.
I thought the edge protrusion provided by the advertising board next door (one of your considerations I know) would be better not there and I also felt that a little detail in the boards down the jigger to the right might help ( I preferred that to yopur suggestion of removal as I felt that they are compliomentary to the alley - there is a pub there I would guess!). For that reason I have dealt with both issues. I realise it is subjective - but there you go so hence a mod uploaded for your consideration.

Yes the yellow reflections help make this an excellent shot. I like Frank's removal of the board, I think you should clone out the white notice on the door too.
Shop fronts often make interesting images, open all hours, lights shining out into darkness and Brymore Ice Cream, very nice too.

Hello Paul,
Unlike Frank, I only do MOD on your photos. One is I know that you wouldn't mind;second is I come here to learn. I think that you are right, I cropped off the white wall part and give it a further crop for you to have a look. Content aware fill got rid of the sign. I don't know how to deal with wires, I heard that it can be dealt with path, but I can't work it out..I had to do the basic-clone. I really like this photos. It reminded me of a violin shop I put on critique gallery a few year ago taken with my fuji little camera. Mine was not clear and with noise.
BTW, thank you for the helpful critique on the HDR.

A charming little shop, Paul, and colourful, too. I like the picture panel over the door.
Some of the 'window reflections' in the windows must be from the other side of the street, and confused me at first.
Had to have a go at a mod, hope you like it. Firstly, I used perspective correction on the shop edges, then set about cloning. Removed white areas on both sides, sign on left, wires over shop sign, some window notices, etc.
Pamela.
It's taken 6 years for me to find another photo of Justin's on EPZ. I'm surprised others don't see the photo opportunities.
Mind you I don't like the ice cream sign they've put up.
