Thank You.....

With the ban on smoking in public places came an insistence that venues likely to attract the smoking public, such as bars, betting shops and bingo halls, should be responsible for minimising the mess of cigarette-ends on the pavements fronting their property. A whole new regiment of street furniture has since come into existence, consisting mainly of big black litter bins with stubbers on top - remarkably similar to the bins that largely disappeared from our streets when every single one might have accommodated a terrorist bomb... ...

Far more discreet but for the colour scheme are wall-mounted devices such as this one, seen during a wander round Alnwick a few days ago. Strangely, however, this one was nowhere near any leisure establishment, nor any other kind of establishment that I remember. Maybe that explains why nobody seems to have used it Smile

A Special Thank You to those who contributed modifications to my upload yesterday. They were all much appreciated and full of fun! Perhaps I'll start thinking a bit more carefully about how I treat my brain Smile

Now off to do some clicking and running to catch up with everything I missed yesterday.

often seen smoldering too and smelt form as far away as public WC's (when they had them!)

oh, I like the image for the colour texture contrasts but even more for the documentary/PJ content

Now that explains why this is the most pristine example of these that I have seen. You will know my fondness for a nice wall Bill.(and a very nice one here). But what irritates me intensely,is smokers insistance of stubbing their fag out on the wall, then putting it in the bin!!!! Just no way to treat a wall!! A good bit of colour here with some nice BG texture.

You know Bill its over a year now since the smoking ban in Wales.
It is a pleasure to go out for a quiet drink or two without all the horrible smoke. I have seen the same device you show in a number of establishments, wish I was the chap making and selling them.

I have always found it interesting that places that ban smoking just puts it out on street...especially hospitals where half the staff are outside of the door smoking. What kind of example does that set? Nice composition here, too.

Great spot Bill, I have now been a non smoker for well over two years now, but I say bring back smoking in public places.

Beautifully captured Bill, very crisp and with great textural contrast between the yellow metal and the stones.

Small box - Looks like some sort of Tardis in which smokers can go.

I think they should do them as stencil drawings on the floor, thats where most of the butts go anyway & I imagine its easier to sweep them up rather than empty one especially when its full of rain water

Perfect textures on the brickwork. I always think yellow is a hard colour to get right as it soon looks over-exposed when the light hits it. The colour is splendid here. Not the best paint job I've ever seen.
Sandra

As usual cracking info, new to my eyes, only ever stole one thing in my life, when i was a kid i stole some smokes from a shop which turned out to be dummies (dont) i thought how could adults smoke these things
