from Glen Brittle, I decided it needed monochrome to further the feeling of this image.
It doesn't pull any punches, Dougie. Magnificent.
One of the great Alpine mountain guides of the mid-1800s, a Swiss I believe although I forget his name, refused to traverse the Cuillin because he believed it was impossible to do in a day. The quality of light was such that he totally misjudged the scale (though perhaps not the difficulty) of the terrain.
This quality of light comes over perfectly in this fine image.
Well, perhaps it wasn't precisely this ridge, but the rule holds good for all the Cuillin and the Highlands: the climate in the mountains is Arctic rather than Alpine and can be very deceptive. It has deceived a few people this last winter . . .
I guess the monochrome adds contrast and thus enhances the difference between light and shade, Dougie: I remember seeing a very similar view when I toured this Glen in Google Maps.
looks like a great place for us walkers
The lovely light in the sky has brought out such detail in those mountains.......Sandy
A great mono landscape reminds me a bit of Ansel Adams.
I love that gentle diagonal of the treeline along the bottom of the frame, and the mountain leaning forward towards it. Also that cloud shadow. Very subtle.
Like the first popular form of photography (daguerreotype). Yes, I agree with Cliff, reminds me a bit of Ansel Adams.
Black and white magic.
