At some point during a long-distance run, they say you meet the wall. Perhaps this is what it feels like, when every nerve and sinew is screaming for respite, yet something deep, deep in the inner depths of your soul doesn't allow you to give up, and suddenly you are emerging again into the light...
Is this what it is like?
I do not know.
I have never been there.
Do I want to go there?........Tjaa....
V2 as a b&w version...
Many thanks for all your recent comments and your great uploads.
Thanks for bothering.
Malc
From Monday I have the task of being Guest Editor....pleasure and pain???

I want V2 for a) the frames of his glasses and b) the flying mud comes over better. But V2 would make a fabulous poster.
I covet this one, it's a sport I'd dearly love to photograph. You've captured the isolation of personal struggle.
Moira
Been there, done that .... I can feel his pain which you've captured so well.
Dave
Quote: I think I might have been tempted to crop it into more of a portrait format becasue not sure whether the space on the left adds that much. Just a thought.
No way! The space on the left is his dark torment, he's looking into the abyss. Plus the fact that he is moving right to left adds to the depressive feel. I'm getting to like this one more and more.
Moira
PS Just noticed what you are doing next week. Be prepared for an awful lot of birds of the feathered variety... ![]()
The mono for me, Malc. Reduces all the other emotional possibilities to a minimum to focus on the torment.
Keeping the space on the left gives the runner space to move into, ensuring the torment continues.
I was considered a reasonable athlete at school (school athletics captain, not that it involved anything other than glory
) But I couldn't cope with any race longer than about 400metres, so in a cross-country race I would be 200m ahead of the field after the first 400m only to spend the rest of the course on my knees. Cruelty to dumb animals it was.
Have just reviewed the two versions. V2 it is. Excellent.
Regards
Bill
2 excellent images.. V1 speaks for itself,.. V2 opens up to more interpretation.. Great execution
My only claim to athletic fame Malc was an egg and spoon race.
And it is to my eternal shame that 48 years later I will admit I cheated !!
Good luck with your GE week.
I think I would rather do a long distance run blindfolded.
(Mind you,I would make sure the blindfold was see through !!)
Mick.
Great work Malc, I like both versions, but V1 just makes the winning post for me.

I've just had this and No pain, no gain on-screen side by side. Much as I like the latter, this one says more by saying less. Brilliant photo, I'd be proud to have it in my pf.
MrsW has it shortlisted too but I got there first!
Regards
Bill
A great use of light here, Malc, and really captures the moment
Both versions work well, but it's V1 for me ![]()

very interesting.
I like no 2 for the brutal, raw force shown in it.
For me this works best in v2 - very dramatic. Hopefully you will look in better shape than this at the end of your marathon week ![]()

The grit and determination he's showing to complete the event comes across superbly in these. You'd do well to heed Helen's warning, it will be a marathon task looking through all those uploads each day, rather you than me!![]()
Han venter nok på annen runde av adrenalinet - kom det eller gikk han virkelig rett i veggen. To forskjellige følelser ved disse. Mer smerte og utmattelse synes i v1, men den liker egentlig virkningen i v2 best - den er rå!
