Another holiday snap. Around the village we stayed in, photography opportunities were limited. So were the sunsets as there were hardly any clouds in the sky! This was an abandoned fig orchard between the old centre and the modern villa area where we were staying. There were still fig, olive and carob trees fruiting. Clearly the ground had been spectacular with flowers in the spring but by summer they were just very dry and very prickly seed heads. My wife and I found someones hidden marjuhana plant while exploring this area during the day!
Attached to, and slowly eating into the orchard was the exquisite town cemetery. V2 shows the gates and V3 the interior. A lot of love and attention and ceremony going on there and a friendly attendent who didn't mind us taking photos.

Well captured opportunities, Al. v1 has a moody atmosphere to it. Well composed and would look fantastic with the flowers in bloom but still has interest in the seed heads even now. v2 is a lovely view through the gates. The gate is nicely off-set but I'm undecided whether the steps could be cropped out - another version for another time maybe. v3 is a fascinating insight into foreign cemeteries.

I love the blush in the sky and the processing of the fg to bring out the magic carpet of flowers. Wonderful work in the twilght zone.

Wow, thanks so much for the UA, Dougie! Means a great deal coming from a talented photographer
The V1 image was shot as a bracket of three, each 1 stop apart and then I blended them in PSE.
Thanks too Nathan, Dave and Diane for your comments. I wasn't sure about the steps either Dave!
Hi Alan
Really nice composition in V1 but for me the exposure balance between the sky and the foreground dosn't look quite right. If you used an ND grad on the sky perhaps it was a bit strong.
I have uploaded a mod that equalizes the exposure balance a bit more. I have also added a little more sharpening and reduced the vignette.

The mod I uploaded seems very dark once uploaded
. Looked much lighter when adjusted in PS. Sorry Alan that probably wasnt very helpful.

It was a bit darker but the balance was better which was very helpful
. In fairness to us both, it wasn't a terribly photogenic orchard and I found it very challenging to make a decent composition out of it. Too much tree crossing the horizon I think. My first photomatix HDR effort just didn't look realistic hence I tried blending in photoshop.
