Carpenter bees simply adore sunflowers, I couldn't resist trying to capture them as they were flying in to feed from this huge flower head. As this sunflower stands over 7' tall, I had to do a balancing act on a chair, trying to get level with the head of the flower.

A rather superb set of photographs depicting this hard working Carpenter Bee going about his business around these rather stunning Sunflowers. Beautiful natural colour, and rather nice detail. Version 1 is the outright winner in my eyes this morning.
Regards Nathan
The sunflower look so good agaist the sky and the big black helicopter makes it even better!
So they are carpenter bees! Here they call them Spanish bees....there you go I learned something.
Think I have to get some sunflowers![]()
Upper images Carol and I am so pleased to have the proper name for these huge black bees that we see in Spain.
Not sure I've ever seen one of these................ a sunflower is it ![]()
Excellent composition in v1, Carol.
Dave
Well worth your effort ..... a great set
and love the bold colours
Stunning set again Carol, do you know that the wings on bees are so small compared to the size of their bodies that it should be impossible to fly, the problem being no one told the bees, V1 for me.
Kindest regards.
Trev.
V3, for the more dynamic angle.
I terrify people by balancing on chairs, and occasionally falling off. Be careful!
Moira

Beautiful natural colour, and nice detail. Version 1 for my choice
Very eye cathing with the yellow of the sunflower contrasting against that lovely blue sky, and to catch the bee in mid-flight like that - and sharp - is amazing ![]()

The sunflower looks good, Carol......oh, and the bee! V4 is the one for me.
worth the effort of standing on the chair, lovely detail and colour, just realised you had posted 4 shots Carol I overlooked to see them at first V4 I favour but they are all good and to get the bee is a bonus indeed
A fantastic set of images Carol, the colours are simply glorious and a joy to behold.
