The horse-drawn barge on the river.

V2 was an attempt at a nostalgic look, but 2 things were wrong.
1) The lad's dayglo jacket doesn't look very "period".
2) I've discovered I'm really rubbish at adding a vignette.

Btw, if anyone's looking for a new bag, jacobsdigital.co.uk are selling the black versions of the Crumpler Messenger Boy 2000, 3000 & 4000 at half price at the moment.

Hi, I see what you are trying to do and what you say so why don't you put it up for a MOD and see what other people can do with it. I found that I have learned loads from other peoples mod's. Its surprising what other people can see in your images. Smile

David.

Yep, the vintage sepia tone does really suit the subject - and it is a pity the lad wasn't dressed a bit more in keeping with the times we'd associate with this - the curse of the dreaded Health & Safety Inspector, I imagine.

As for adding a vignette here, I think the problem would be a vignette really needs a central focus to work, and this doesn't really have one, and is too much of a full-length image to try it with. If that makes any sense.

I've put the images I use to vignette rectangular and square photos online. Feel free to download them and use them for anything you want. Pick the one that's closest to the aspect ratio of your photo, rotate and resize it as appropriate and paste it as a new layer, setting the opacity to whatever you think looks best for each photo. The server I've put them on will be unavailable for some or all of the afternoon of Sunday, 11th April (UK time).

You have mentioned the jacket and for that reason my vote goes for V2.

Yes, despite my reservations, the B&W/sepia tone has taken a lot of the obvious modernity from the jacket, & toned it down somewhat. I guess the yellow & reflective strips must be more or less a similar tone.

nice to see this, its been over 20 years since i saw a horse on the canal.
