Members of the re-enactment group Legio IX, the Lost Legion, outside the Multangular Tower in York, this is part of the original Roman wall in York. This Legion were stationed in York and 'disappeared'. There are various theories, none of which have been proven. The Romans were in York for almost four centuries, 'whatever did the Romans do for us'.

Great picture !
I have relatives who live in York and many years ago they lived in a house that was built over part of a Roman passageway. I went to stay with them for a while, and they told me that sometimes in the night you could hear the ghosts of the lost legion marching by. I didn't sleep a wink and was frightened fartless !!!
My Dad, who had a very dry sense of humour, wanted to know if they were chanting sinister dexter as they marched by. ![]()
