Going back onto to Catte Street, on Radcliffe Square stands The Radcliffe Camera building. The camera (the word means simply ‘room’) was built 1737-1749 with £40,000 bequeathed by Dr John Radcliffe, the royal physician. It was intended to house a new library, and originally it held both scientific and general books, but the collections were gradually moved to other University libraries. Today the Camera functions as the main reading room of the Bodleian Library used by undergraduates, and currently holds some 600,000 books in underground rooms beneath Radcliffe Square.

I agree
I note your comment on Bill's image and share the frustration with voting and commenting - I find it works a couple of times and then I have to open a new window and dial up again - very frustrating

There is some impressive architecture and beautiful buildings in Oxford as this seriesof your's shows so well, Trev. Another superb building very well captured with such excellent detail and textures in the stone work. Interestingly, my wife spent last evening watching one episode of 'Lewis' after another on the TV, and in one the Hertford Bridge which you have featured in recent postings was featured.
Ronnie.
This is yet another impressiove image of an impressive piece of Oxford architecture, Trev.
I wonder how many of the students reading there appreciate their surroundings?

Another beautiful detailed image - well taken indeed Trev !
So slow today !
Chris
I am enjoying your tour around Oxford - yet another great shot!
Carol
great shot pin sharp and very well detailed - if you want to do a mod you click on modifications and the page will appear to download (bit long winded if you ask me) but this is out new look apparently![]()
A great shot Trev, clear and sharp, but I think you corrected the wide-angle distortion, and it went the other way around - now your tower looks distorted again... compare with the original. I think you should rework it, or keep to the original. Sorry,
Johanna
You really are turning into an architectural specialist - excellent again.
You really have got this "tweeking" down to a fine art
Another awesome shot
EPZ is sooo very slowww today, and I'm getting increasingly more frustrated at trying to view uploads, so yours is the last I'm commenting/voting on for the time being . I hope they get this sorted soon...
TrevB . Have to agree Trev. and am not going to bother uploading again until the issue of speed has been sorted out . Love this though as my mother's surname was Radcliffe and has relatives around Oxford so holds a certain amount of special interest for me ....Phil
