Not the 'plane, but the name of a steam special that ran on Aug 30th. Thought this would wet the appetite ready for the SVR gala starting today and running continuously, through the nights, until Sunday.
Number 34067 is a member of the West Country/Battle of Britain class locos that worked on the old Southern Railway, and is named Tangmere after the fighter airfield in the front line of our defence during the battle. The class, designed by Bullied, has many original features and had an airsmooth casing to enable them to be cleaned by a carriage washing plant. Many of the class were rebuilt to a more conventional form by BR. Rather strange, seeing that engine cleaners were few due to the high cost of labour!!! Still, that's government thinking for you!
The photo was taken on Herne Bay station,Kent, now only a shadow of it's former self.
C&C welcome as always. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend.
Bob.

Hi Bob ,

I love the sight of these Bulleid Pacifics they're my favourite steam loco and I had the pleasure of riding behind one up in Yorkshire at Keighthly Very smooth, must be the oilbath valve gear. They are a very smart Loco in my estimation and I love those "American " style driving wheels.I am not a railway "anorak" but being a retired Mechanical Engineer I have a natural affinity with steam. Smashing photo by the way!
