This is my father in law. A old style retired school teacher. Not as scary as he looks!
It was quite a tight crop to start with so I do not have much to play with regarding the composition.

Oh Wow, this is an excellent image, very nicely done. That lens seems great.

Really good portrait. You didnt load any exif data or shot description so I have to assume this is f/1.4. Youve got the near eye perfectly in focus, so its works well. AS you likely know, the lens is better stopped down a little.

Loaded a minor mod where Ive reduced highlights slightly, which has also increased contrast, and Ive applied a very small amount of sharpening to the eye and glasses.

Well done,

regards

I thought that I had loaded the exif... I have added it now. It was shot at f2.0. I was playing with the DoF with this lens as I have only had it for a week or so and wanted to try it wide open (or close to). Controlling the focus point at f1.4 was a little tricky and takes some getting used to.

Thanks for the mod - subtle but much better.

Kieran.

Very strong portrait that suites mono well and an excellent tight crop. I have mixed feelings about the depth of field - it works quite well, but might have gone for about f4 myself.

Like Paul, I would prefer to see a greater DoF, certainly sufficient to include his chin. Compositionally, I like it.

Thanks for the feedback. As I just got a new toy I was playing with a large aperture, I agree that a greater DoF would be better to at least include the face.
