Afternoon All

Well I am packing up and ready to hit the road, heading down to Virginia for a couple of days so thought I would post one more before I go. This is a continuation of yesterdays post. One of the things this bird does that is extremely difficult to catch on camera is flicking his tongue out. Apparently the peanut butter is so sticky that it takes several attempts to clean it off his tongue. The problem is that it happens so fast it is difficult at best to capture this on camera as he only does it about 3 – 4 times in about a second. I was able to capture this and thought you all might be interested in seeing what it looks like. I am sure this is not what one would call an appealing bird photo, but it was good practice and I enjoyed taking it. Ok, got to run, well catch up with you all later!

Greg

My setup when shooting:

1. Setup a fallen branch, 1 inch holes drilled in the backside of the branch. I filled in the holes with peanut butter, chunky type.
2. Used Christmas tree stand to hold the branch in place. I placed branch in an open area back from the tree line and away from any shade source. There was overcast skies and did not want the trees to hinder the lighting.
3. Setup the two man hide/blind about 15 feet away from the staging branch.
4. Grabbed a thermos of coffee, setup my tripod and mounted the camera.
5. Set the camera to manual mode.
6. Fired off several shots each time, checked the results and then fire off some more.
7. I constantly checked the level meter in the camera for changes in the light strength.

What a beauty again Greg, Its amazing you find the time to capture these superb images, due to you being on the road so often. Is it photography you do as a profession or are you an international man of mystery.

There's something vaguely disturbing about seeing a birds tongue. Like the opening scene to a horror film!

You stay safe out there!
