Ex LNER V2 no. 4771 "Green Arrow" leaves Bury station with a train for the North - well as far as Rawtenstall anyway.
The V2s were designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and were built by the LNER's Doncaster and Darlington works between 1936 and 1944.
A very capable mixed traffic design they were equally at home on fast goods trains or passenger duties and could deputise for larger Pacific type locos on the LNER's heaviest express trains.
This loco is part of the National Collection, was the first of it's type and the only one to be preserved, it has been a mainline regular for many years, I remember seeing it at York station in the late seventies.
A major mechanical fault has meant retirement from active duty and the loco will probably remain as a static exhibit for the foreseeable future.
Thanks for looking.
