I took this photo of the bass player in a band that were busking in Cardiff, South Wales. It was tricky to get good shots as there were loads of shoppers walking between me and the band, it being a Saturday morning. In addition, the other two guys who were playing guitar, had microphones and stands right in front of their faces. The bass player looked the most interesting visually.
It was, yet again, grey and overcast.

I'd never heard of this band, but they were playing bluesy/jazz type of style. As a bass player myself, I was drawn to the bassist, his bass, although based on a Fender Jazz bass, is a make I'm not familiar with.

One watermelon. Theres an old film called the Watermelon Man.

This is a very good capture, needing only one small tweak. Its sharp everywhere its supposed to be, except his head!. I imagine he was likely nodding his head to the beat, or he might have been leaning his head back a little.

So thats the main thing Ive done, - I also reduced highlights on the guitar to see the shadows of the strings a little better. A very good street shot.

regards

Willie

Thanks Willie, I did tone down the guitar a little using levels, but probably not enough. Your Mod does it.
Thanks again for your help,

Yes a nice shot, one thing I would have liked to have seen however, was the guy looking at you. I generally find these street buskers love attention, after all that is why they are out there, so shout 'Hey man' or something similar to attract his attention and I reckon he would then be only too willing to oblige with a few poses.

Thanks Frank,
I had a 70-300 lens on, which meant I had to stand back a bit. As a beginner I think I need to be a bit more bold and do as you suggest. Ill try your shouting next time, with a shorter lens on!
Cheers

You could have used 70 mm, 112 mm. This is a decent candid but the head being soft is the wek point. The head needed to be sharp and it may be subject movement. You shutter speed is quite low.

Thanks Paul. Ill probably do some similar shots and use a faster shutter speed.
