Just for Dave (WhiteRose1), the first of my holiday snaps from Portugal. This was from one of my few early morning forays (well, it was a family holiday) when I went to Gale beach. Amusingly I woke an hour earlier than planned, didn't spot this, thought my brother in law had bailed on me and I headed to the beach alone... Only realised my mistake when the sun took an awfully long time to rise! Unfortunately being on the southern coast meant the sun also rose and set inland.

This image is sandstone rocks at Gale beach (pronounced Gaa-lay, I think). There are craggy bits behind with caves and small arches. The moon was shot just before sunrise on a 200mm zoom and the rocks about 15min after sunrise. This got around the old problem of a really large-looking moon close to the horizon but a wide-angle lense making it appear tiny!

V2 is a view in a different direction at the same beach.

V3 is the view from the top of the crags looking west.

A rather nice introduction, certainly informative and worth a read. Your accompanying images Al, are in a league of their own of which in all honesty I can find little or no fault to quibble upon, this is very apparent in images 1 and 2. Being exceptionally picky, I would remove the small craft near to the horizon on Image Number One, and on Image Number Two, I would apply a little careful dodging to bring out slightly more detail in the foreground rocks. In image Number Three I would reverse the process and Burn the slightly over exposed areas in the rock in upper middle-ground.

Regards Nathan.

P.S.

Hope you have a great Bank Holiday Monday.

Superb images all. I like V2 first, but all three are very pleasing. TG

You lied, you said you'd just taken snaps!!!!

v1 - my favourite. A simple composition, the rocks are in alignment with the moon and the increase in size away from the bottom is important for the balance of the image. A lovely smooth colour gradient as well. The whole image just says 'harmony' to me.

v3 - second favourite. A good diagonal composition, foreground detail, and beautiful light and tones on the rocks.

v2 - I'm not sure about this one. It seems to lack a point of interest.. the moon, a fisherman, a boat etc. The truncate rock on the left looks a little 'awkward' as well.

An extra point for the Waterboys title Smile

Dave

Thanks Nathan, Tony, Ant, Mark, Dougie and Dave!
Nathan; top tips thanks, I may go back and re-edit as suggested.
Dave, thanks for the comments; V3 was the 'snap' of the morning, I agree with all your comments on it, it was really just supposed to illustrate the rock formations and the horrid tourist development in the distance! Glad you liked the title. I guess on that day there must have been 'Fisherman's Blues' so no one about. At least in V1 I caught a 'Strange Boat'... heh heh Grin

A nice set but V1 has to be the pick of the crop.
