Very Greek and Tragedian, Andy!
Flawless execution, as I've come to expect.

A small suggestion:
I think that a vignette would work extremely well and would, possibly, make this even better as some of the edges are quite bright. Gut feeling suggests that this could take quite a strong vignette and wouldn't detract, and would draw the viewer even more into the bloody intimacy of the piece. And maybe some distressing of the sword wouldn't go amiss; would complement the antique feel of the whole picture.
A couple of thoughts, anyway!

Cheers

Bill

I Like this image very much...so much so, i am about to write a book on it...!!! here go's... you have Great vision... but for me there are three element's that don't quite fit in...one that Barbarhirst has picked up on...that is the mountains...the second is the "Lightning Strike"...for me it Really spoil's the imge...the third...the Eye...you dont need it...I hope you don't mind me putting my point of view across...but I thought the image is so good it was worth the time to write about what i see...some times I "over cook" my images...and I feel that has happened here...some times "less" is "More"... although I have no idea how you created the sword & Face helment, I Love them...there are fabulous...the sand is fantastic...I Really hope I see a different version of this amazing image at some point...Excelento...!!! Hi Andy.

Yep, I reckon the vignette is working. Maybe a bit of over distressing on the sword, perhaps?
Ideally I think a kind of combination of all three versions would be in the sweet spot if I was wearing my art director's hat!!
The sword from V3 + the vignette from V2 all into V1.....
Agree with Osie about the lightining effect, too - not really necessary, or if you kept it then it needs to be different somewhow....er not quite sure! Maybe less prominent or thinner.
Here's another thought: have you considered a sepia treatment or desaturating it even more.....I could go on and on...
Better get back to work before they sack me! Smile

Keep 'em coming, I love this kind of thing!
Bill

Andy...may be I should have kept quiet...! I cant make my mind up now which I like most...!!! having seen V3...I do actually like the white clouds...and like billygoatgruff, I think the "Lightning Strike" would look good if it was "Thinner"... I think it has helped a lot, now you have lost the face & mountains in V3...as Mr Gruff has said...could go on forever on this one...but you must be doing something right coz its not been on here 5 minutes & you all ready have 14 votes...! & it seems to be coausing quite a stir...Smile any way...to sum up...for this guy who couldn't have done it in the first place...white clouds...Thin lightning Strike...and not sure about the vignette...? despite what i have said to sum it up again...it's a Brilliant piece of artwork...! and I Love it...later on today, I am going to go through your portfolio, coz I am sure I will like what I find...have a good one...osie...Smile

Hi Andy, I love this, difficult to decide which I prefer but I think my favourite is V2 just, I like the texture on the sword and the vignette.

Very strong image

Jeepers you'll be modifying this for the rest of your shift. I have to say I really like V3 it kind of makes more sense in a Brad Pitt sort of way.

its a very difficult choice, as the whole series placed together give's a fullness of the story over a period of time...

They are all masterful placed together with much thought & meaning .

This doesn't seem right. At the hilt, the flat face of the blade appears to be facing forwards and to the left but the way it enters the ground, it's facing forwards and to the right, without being twisted anywhere. The shadow also assumes that the flat face is facing to the right, as the width of the shadow is the width of the blade, rather than its thickness.

Still, I quite like all three: it's good with and without the vignette and with and without the mountains. I'm not a fan of the lightning bolt, though, as it's just impossible to get it bright enough.

I suppose there are bound to be likes, dislikes, hopes and wishes due to particular themes and stories that are unfolding in peoples minds...all which help make them a very evocative set of images?

Nonetheless very skillfully done Andy, each version having it's own merits I feel...I like them all
