Something completely different again today. Two weeks ago, I bought a nearly new Tamron 70-300 macro lens (at a whopping £60, it is my most expensive lens yet!). I realised today that I still hadn't used it, so here's my first attempt. The lens is definitely an improvement on my rather fuzzy sigma 70-300.

To keep the background dim, the mushrooms were "light painted" with a narrow beam, using a very low iso and 4 second exposure (almost sounds like I know what I'm talking about doesn't it!Smile)

Please do comment and critique as you see fit. I'm thinking of entering it at the club, so would appreciate your input.

Like your technique. It works well with this shot. The mushrooms look similar to Shitake.

I'm not an expert on lighting, so I can't give you any real critique Peter, but it looks very good to me.

Tonyng spotted the species! They are shiitake, a very tasty mushroom originally from Asia, quite easily grown on logs here in the UK, but don't think you'd find many growing wild... These will be ex-mushrooms in a few minutes, cheese and mushroom omelette... Mmmmmm...Smile

Peter I think this is an amazing fungii image.
We have a fungi expert in our club and his images look lit like this.
I love the little grass stalks with droplets also.
A beautifully composed trio. I love it.
Good luck in competition and let us know how you ger on.

I think it is a wonderful image, and should do well at your camera club, wonderful lighting and composition.
One minor point that is easily remedied, clone out the highlight in the left mushroom reducing the opacity to about 40%, i think it would improve the image as my eye is drawn to it straight away, you do need the highlight but reduce the intensity.
Hope you except this as constructive critique, it is something that i think the judges would pick up.
Well done, and good luck with your entry.

Thanks, I might need it.... I'm leading by two points at the moment, but it's an uphill struggle against the serious wildlife toggers who always get nines and tens!

I like this image especially the composition and how you have used light - I enter regularly at club competition level but always keep in my mind the thought - If I like it then thats the most important thing - Elizabethxx

Hi, again, please find modification to your image, i hope you think it is a minor improvement. Cloned the area of highlight 81% opacity and added a little extra light to the mushrooms, very small amount to the edge and side of the stork.
good luck.
Darryl. Smile
