I’M Back…
Had a nice business trip but had no opportunity for any photography. Meetings went into the night, just as well though because the wind chill here was close to 10 degrees and that’s not good for me or my camera!
Anyways here is a shot on a bird taken on a log. I found this on my property and decided to use it for a staging branch as it had natural crevices in the wood in which to place seeds. This had enormous success as it attracted Titmouse’s, Cardinals, Chickadees and Junco’s. I will post some of these later. Though the log itself worked great I am not sure how well the overall comp works on the shot, so let me know what you think. Would it be better to keep the shots eye level and in branches up off the ground or does this look appealing even though at ground level? Ok, got to run, promised to take the wife to dinner, I will be back in a couple of hours and then catch up with you all to see what’s been going on in the world of EPZ photography!
Greg
My setup when shooting:
1. Setup a fallen log, placed seeds in the naturally formed crevices. I filled crevices with sun flower seeds.
2. The branch lay on the ground as if naturally fallen.
3. Setup the two man hide/blind about 15 feet away from the branch.
4. Set the camera to manual mode.
5. Fired off several shots each time, checked the results and then fire off some more.
6. I constantly checked the level meter in the camera for changes in the light strength.

Tom.
Its a beauty, great angle and its certainly a different setup for you but it certainly works for me. Its nice seeing the golden leaves in the background, excellent dof and any sharper and you'd cut yourself. Hope you had a good dinner.

I just love these little guys!! Wish we had them over here! Beautifully taken as always, with perfect detail and dof.

Although I love your pictures, this is different for you, and I wouldn't have known straight away that it was yours. Having said that, I like its natural feel. The log is beautiful, but I love wood anyway, and the bird blends so well into its bg. Your usual superb detail on the subject. I would say, if you like it yourself, go with it. A different angle, too, but it is very effective.
Quality image again Gregg. Great info on your set ups

Technically perfect as usual. The log is very attractive (the bird is too!) The picture is just perfect - and one I would give my eye teeth to be able to achieve. When someone achieves perfection as often as you do, it is a challenge to get something a bit different. I love looking at your portfolio. Happy New Year!!!
Marvellous shot Greg, lighting and detail are impressive. The log and angle work a treat, excellent work!
