I like the expressions that you've captured here!

Perhaps a larger aperture would have worked well too, in order to blur some of the background and keep the focus on the 'tug-of-war' men, but that's just personal preference!

I prefer the dof as it is, as it depicts the 'atmosphere' of the summer event so well. The detail of the background, to me, is so important in this shot.

Cheers,

Jack

Thanks for the comments both.
I am happy with the result although cannot take credit for the dof achieved because I'm still at the stage where dof is really only considered when I have time to think about it; landscapes or still objects. In this case the contest was announced and I ran to get a couple of shots. I like the expression on the front man, the smiles on the onlookers and the gritted teeth and encouragement obviously being given by the chap with the hat just behind. I reckon he had a bet on them to win! Smile
I am grateful for the suggestion Hannah, it reminds me that I should always be thinking about these things. Still early days for me!Smile

a well composed shot that is well suited to mono..greta expressions...the `fist pump' from the `manager' and taking the strain... GrinGrin
