Hi everyone, I seem to be keeping up with you all ok so far. Things may change though.
This idea I came up with just last night at around 12 midnight. I had been getting a few shots of something else, won't tell you as it could be a future upload. Anyway I had packed everything away and was thinking about heading to bed, it was then I noticed the bunch of Tulips I had bought the better half, sat on the cabinet in the hall. I hadn't taken any shots of them as yet and they were screaming at me. Being the kind hearted person that I am, I obliged them with a few shots. I then thought of this as I was pouring myself a drink, Tea, I hasten to add, "What else," I hear you cry. You all must think I walk around with a flask of tea in my pocket, I'm not that bad, I just take the kettle. I am straying off the subject here. I sourced one of the better halfs new wine glasses from the cupboard, placed one of the Tulips and off I went, pouring water from a jug and trying to capture it. Not an easy task, I can tell you. The lighting is the problem, firstly the room has to be dark, have you ever tried pouring water into a wine glass in the dark, trust me, Don't. Then I had problems with the flash, how do you pour and take the photo, so the pour coincides with the flash, impossible is the answer. This was how I managed it. You are all going to think I am quite mad.
I shall begin. I mounted my D40 on a tripod with the flash fitted in the hotshoe, that was then all set up, I needed the flash at the front to light up the glass and flower, obviously I hear you say. Now comes, what I think is the clever bit, I set my old spare Nikon F301, no film, on another tripod, with another flash fitted in its hotshoe and a shutter release cable, then I placed it to the rear of the glass facing the background. I then set my D40 shutter speed to 5 seconds and put the timer on. I had a tiny torch so I could just see and off I went. After the D40 fired, I started pouring, I then fired the F301 to freeze the flow of water with the shutter release cable, all this was done within the 5 second window of shutter speed on the D40 and in a darkened room.
Phew, I am glad that is over. It was hard work and plenty of shots were wasted, as usual, the outcome I think is very satisfying. If you are going to try this, please have your hair cut short, if you don't, Ithink you will pull it all out. I finally went to beds at 2am. Gill was not impressed.
I do hope you like it.
Thanks for looking and for any comments.

Oh you do work so hard for your shots!!
How do you fit in life!!
Its one of those ideas that you know you have to go with because you wouldn't have slept anyway
Well done
Helen
Amazing, ingenious, original, informative and always so much fun. I wouldn't be surprised to hear you come up with a tea-powered shutter release next.
(Please do not tell Gill, that was only meant to be a joke!)
Regards
Bill
Fabulous job - well done. Crikey I don't know how you think of these things!

Great shot, worth all that effort and then to type it all out, would of take me about two days![]()

Absolutely wonderful story, you could create a soap opera about your domestic life. Travels with a thermos flask and a tulip. Oh and the picture is pretty good.
So how many heroic attempts did this involve? EPZ serves a valuable social function, without it we'd all be let loose on an unsuspecting world, and that could be really dangerous.
I'm off for a cup of tea to recover.

Your description alone is worth a click lol... i, too have 'lost track of time' and ventured to bed late through 'ideas' lol... anyway i digress... the water pouring idea is great on its own but with the tulip it adds a different dimension to the pic.. well thought and snapped... Karen
it all sounds mighty confusing to me, I have enough trouble using the built in flash, you are so clever. The result is fantastic Andy, I love it,
Chris.
A superb capture Andy and a comical and interesting write up on how you achieved it. Not sure I'm that dedicted but photography is all about experimenting and it can be great fun especially when you get results like this. Brilliant work. Jeff
Well Andy, it was definitely worth the effort.
A stunning shot and well thought out.

Wow. I'm tired just looking at your explanation ![]()
A well-planned shot with an excellent result.
