Turnberry Lighthouse on the Ayrshire coast at dusk. Long exposure to capture the incoming waves. Maybe an ND should have been used for the sky as a bit washed out where the sun has just dropped below the horizon. A great location to shoot. Sadly the lighthouse will be decommissioned in 2015. So shoot now!!

A really nice shot, that would have benefitted with using an ND Grad as you mention.

Slight lens distortion tilting the lighthouse outwards, corrected in a mod. Also slightly brightened the sea, and filled in some clouds.

Hi Stephen,

I love your image, well composed, great slow shutter effect in the sea and leading line of the beach around to the light house is brilliant. i don't think they will demolish the lighthouse though even if they de-commission it.

the two things that let the image down for me are the white balance issue as the image is blue (see my mod for comparison) and the over exposed sky. The sky I can live with but I think the blue cast is a bit too much unless of course, this is what you were after. I have uploaded a mod where I altered the white balance in ACR, lightened the rocks in PS using the dodge tool. darkened the sky a little (clouds) and straightened the lighthouse which is leaning to the right using the warp tool. Lastly I sharpened the image.

Every time there is a great sky, stormy or whatever, I would be here shooting this shot. A great effort though, well done.

You have made your own judgement. A potential fine image but that burnt out sky has not helped at all. Difficult to deal with I know. nd or much less exposure and then brighten shadows.

Nice image. I have done you a mod. Apart from the bit of over exposed sky I think it is very nice. I altered the graduation curves to try and take the brightness from the sky. Did a few slight alterations to the colour and contrast but nothing drastic as I like the blueness and the mood.
Hope you like it.
Diane
