This is about as near to Wildlife as I'm ever likely to upload. Well everyone wants pictures of birds sitting on sticks, so I was pleased to find two for the price of one, perched in my French friends' dining room. And guaranteed to sit still for me, too.
There is apparently a rule that says you must focus on the eye or be forever damned. This is difficult when your birds don't have any eyes. I focused on the beak instead.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

La Fontaine! It must be forty odd years since I last came across that, but it obviously stuck. Isn't there a setting to music?
Moira
Wow, birds on sticks that prompt a serenade in French, how romantic is that? Well done for your venture into bird photography Moira. V2 for me.
Quote: Nicely shot oops, photographed.
I had refrained from that joke out of good taste...
Quote: You're in danger of getting an EC for this Moira! ![]()
I think it's automatic isn't it? Or do I need a texture layer as well??
Cheers everyone, and a very Silly Sunday to you. I'm just waiting for one of the WatchTheBirdie Brigade to object to the Wildlife tag now...
Moira
Well the birds are shot with a nice an d clean background - always a holy grail for wildlife togs. The images show the colours of the birds well, but i need to be critical on one point - you've used too shallow a DoF and as a consequence we can't see the all important detail in the tail feathers ![]()

Seriously Moira - this with your write up made me smile. I do wonder though whether this would be better in mono with a little vignette added?
Regards
Adam

Forget it. You have no idea how long it took to get the background to tone with the birds - the walls are vivid marigold yellow/orange. (Very French... I'd get arrested if I did that.)

Damn. Actually I needed a fast shutter speed because I was hiding in camouflage gear behind the dining table in the hope that they would take off and I could get the wing feathers nicely fanned.
And now I think I need to get serious and look at what's been happening elsewhere here...
Moira
It would be a great shame to loose the sheen colours on these lovebirds Moira, tremendous and just shows that a street photographer can do wildlife when she puts her mind to it.
Dougie
I fail to comprehend how you can tag this 'wildlife', Moira. They are, after all, captive domesticated pets, and you have obviously cloned out their gilded cage in order to give the impression of being taken outdoors witha very long lens at f2.8 giving that very oof bg.
We are not taken in.![]()
How very silly![]()
Malc
P.S. Have you prepared the thank you post for when the EC/HC/POTW arrives?
Maybe if I added the Pets tag?

I think it may take the form of a link to an Oscar-style acceptance speech.

At last there are mentions of V2! It's growing on me, I think I should have reversed the order...
Quite seriously, I have observed the discussion of bird photography on this site and find the criteria quite extraordinary. A while a go I read a comment criticising the photographer for not cloning out the seed that had lured the bird to a perch. It ended with 'We all know the rules...'

Speaking of rules....don't forget that 'Darlings' must be pronounced 'Dahlings', and a little tip: in the list of people you feel compelled to thank, never mention your agent, as he will demand an extra 3% for that.![]()
You deserve 10/10 for your sense of humour. Good for you Moira
Have 30 on me Moira. I like these characters, and I think you where right to lead with your first choice.

Moira, I have to say I prefer V1. 'Cos if the eyes don't have it, the beaks should. Not that I'm into beaks or anything...I'm not some kind of freak...no matter what you've heard...*nervous laughter and eyes darting about*
Andrew
A great variation of birds on a stick! And a super Silly Sunday shot!
I'm biased towards V2 as my fave ![]()
Trev ![]()
I love these two images, such wonderful colours and the focus is perfect!
Carol
Youve had some fun out of these two images Moira.
I like the angle of V2.
David
V2 for me, I am lost for words having read all the above but as a silly Sunday image its certainly fun ![]()
I like the patina of these - metal? Also like the focus on the beak, but I want v2. ![]()
Anne
They're stone, Anne - but I've no idea what sort!
Moira
Well they certainly cheap on peanuts... Great you got into stone birds ![]()
What a fine looking pair they are, the best looking birds on a stick i've seen on here in an age!![]()
So to say, sticky birds... ![]()
Nice detail captured, like all those colour shades,
Johanna
