Reculver Towers - situated on the North coast of Kent, it is the site of a Roman fort, Anglo-Saxon monastery, and a Medieval church. The church was partly demolished in 1805 but the twin towers were left. Reculver is said to be one of the most haunted places in Kent and there are many reports of supernatural experiences here, especially the sound of children crying.
Taken in the early evening sun at Iso200, 1/80s, f13, 15mm, tripod, remote release, and a polariser filter.
v1 was converted to mono at the Raw stage in CS5 with a yellow filter to bring out the stonework more.
v2 has the same exif, taken on the next frame but from a slightly slightly different position but left in colour.
Both cropped for effect.
Many thanks for looking,
Dave

Great shot Dave, difficult to decide, I like both.
V1 for its textures and unbelievable sky.
V2 for golden light and tones
mmmmm.
V1 its dramatic
David
Two stunning images of this rather 'Iconic' piece of ancient architecture. The black and white version certainly evokes a lot of drama, however I think the colour version tends to calm the scene down somewhat and thus making it more friendly.
Regards Nathan
Great point of view with good texture in the stonework with nice light.
My choice is V2. Well done. WesternRed.
Dave, its amazing. I love the mono version which is full of impact. Nicely done. deep
Oh how you've taken advantage of that sky!
Really dramactic feel in mono version.
great tones and texture too.
V2 stands quite independently as a great image too
with the strong blue of the sky and the added yellow filter
You should have posted them separately!

Two superb images, great composition and pov, for me I think it has to be V1 :-0

Easy to see those haunted vibes emanating from the towers, each with its own degree of intensity--- one should wear protective clothing while traversing near this area, also take a protective icon or two...
Of course, should you go in the sunny daylight, you will have a much better visit!
Two super images, Dave - think the mono has to be my fave ![]()

Dave, great angle of shot, the clouds are fantastic, I always like a mono, but this time I'm drawn to v2 strangely. A very nice comp..........as always great job.
Paul.
Mono all the way for me Dave. Excellent composition and the additional contrast enhances the sky and brings out the texture in the towers stonework.
Derek
Wowwww, Dave, fantastic mate, i am really into these images at the moment, this has everthing i would be looking for, in particular, the sky and subject matter, i would be well chuffed with this one. Once again, thanks for your info on your camera settings.
Well done.

the mono is good but very eerie I think I might stick with V2 for the colour
I like them both very much, but for atmosphere and spookiness (and I like spookiness), it has to be V1.
Stunning shot love the mono makes the shot stand out the detail spot on
mike
I like the mono for the glorious stonework... But I miss the wee stone gnome on the left!
Mono makes the most of the textures as Derek pointed out and the direction of light is great for enhancing the architecture. I like the dramatic composition; shooting from below enhances the powerful grandeur of the towers which, if they weren't obvious enough, then have the sky pointing at them!
Are you sure you didn't photoshop in a lightsabre scene from Star Wars as your backdrop? ![]()
Two fabulous images, both are good, the mono enhances that fabulous sky.
Thank you so much for the UA.
Christine
Super scary! just the right atmosphere in mono
Susan
my god what a following took me 1/2 hour to get to the bottom of page, like the POV and mono tone great sky
Mono looses out on that wonderful blue sky, but I love the way that the V of the clouds comes from behind the tower in v1 ![]()

V1 is terrific, such a dramatic point of view and very apt for a conversion to monochrome
V1 gets my vote, but there again the black and white version always does. Elaine
