I slightly enlarged the catchlights in Tyke's eyes and used the burn brush to darken the background a little more. Tyke is an excellent model as long as he gets his doggy treats and the postman doesn't come to the door whilst he's posing.

It's a nice shot, but the work on the catchlights looks too artificial (less is more!); and to me it looks like it's been cut out, so again a little less work on the b/g might improve it.

I would suggest making the catchlights less perfectly round, try making them a sort of crescent shape which might look more realistic.

Thank you all for your clicks and comments. And thanks for the advice, Tom. Looking again I can see what you mean. I put a selection around TYke so the burn brush wouldn't affect him, so that's maybe why you think he looks cut out. I'll take onboard the catchlight advice.
