I am finally away into Hospital tomorrow, all the preperation is now complete. I haven't been around much for the last few days and probably won't be for the next few. I apologise for not keeping up with all your images, but shall endeavour to catch up tonight.

This started out as an experiment, pretty much the way my image Natural Light began. It then became a bit of an obsession trying to get it right. What fun I have had this evening with this one. As you will all know heat makes things expand, that is exactly what happens with a filament in a bulb. Not a great problem you might think, well obviously you can't focus in on the filament when it is fully on because that would hurt your eyes ever so slightly, I haven't tested this theory of pain, but I don't think the outcome would be to good, please don't try it. Anyway I had to focus in on the filament whilst it was switched off, with such a shallow depth of field everything changes when the filament is switched on and it expands, it goes completely out of focus. 60 shots later and I was still not there. Hair was now being pulled out, but it wasn't going to beat me. Thank goodness for digital. Could you imagine the amount of film that would have been wasted. I finally figured out that if I shot with it slightly out of focus it worked. This shot was number 87 and the final shot I took. The rest have all been binned.
Hope you like it.

Thanks for looking and for all your comments and I shall look forward to seeing all your images in a couple of days.

Quote: This shot was number 87...

I've made four separate visits so far to a tatty bus shelter trying to get the right light to photograph it.
This site performs a wonderful service for the community, in keeping us harmlessly occupied, without epz we might all be seriously dangerous!
Hope all goes well in hospital,

You eventually got there, Andy, and it was well worth the effort. I can easily believe it's something to be obsessive about. It is certainly an excellent pair with Natural Light - you could print them large and hang them on opposite walls.

Hope all goes well for the next few days, and look forward greatly to having you back on site.
Best wishes

Great idea and wonderful capture. Idea: if you want to pursue shots like this, you might try to get yourself some welder's goggles. I used to use these when I looked into my kiln firing at 2000F and it will save your eyes and you can see perfectly.
Good luck on your operation(?).

Your patience paid off, a brilliant shot.

Ask the hospital if they can give you a hair transplant whilst you're there, lol.
Seriously though, I hope everything goes satisfactorily.
