I am wondering if it is possible to read anything into the expression of the girl in the middle. Whether her expression adds any drama or if it is just a girl with an open mouth Smile

It would be good if you could see what everyone else is looking at. It's a shame you cannot see any faces of the passengers, and it's a shame it's so blurred. Given that the exposure value is about right, I think opening up a stop or two and raising the shutter speed to 1/125 would have helped.
I didn't notice the open-mouthed girl at first, so I would say she needs to be more prominent in the frame.
On the plus side, you don't see too many people on here (epz) doing this kind of street shooting, so good on you and keep at it.

I dont see an expression really Ellie, - but it does remind me of the Munsch Scream painting, so in a way, there is an emotion there thats open to interpretation.

good ide...a little handshke, but an interestiing perspective. Might have titled it `Para' Smile

the little girl could be yawning, or is it an expression of fear (a sudden stop, perhaps?)

Like Willie, I saw Munch's Scream. It's the fact that nobody else sees her...
I'd prefer it sharper, but these are shots that you grab or miss! But this is why I stick to Shutter priority if there's any chance of people shots - I always leave the camera on 1/125 or faster as default!

Thank you! I was figuring that she might not be visible enough to tell a story. Oh well! better luck next time Smile

The slow shutter speed was intentional - I was thinking it could add to the feeling ov movement - like if the tram was about to crash.

But it would have been good if HER face was sharp still Smile

Hi Ellie,

Well it just goes to show how we view images differently, which is how it should be, my eye went straight to the opened mouthed girl in the middle.

This image to my eye portrays the feeling of the bus being driven in a very erratic manner causing panic and confusion amongst the passengers. This is not only suggested by the girls expression but also by the hands holding on and the slight blur to the image.

I've posted a mod where I have increased the contrast in curves and then erased the effect from the girls face. This hasn't quite had the effect I wanted but it has darkened the two passengers either side of the girl. Maybe this is the way to go, have a play with your adjustments before dismissing this image.

Take care
Martin

I didn't notice the child with the open mouth at first, Ellie, and would suggest a crop because there are too many other distractions. I have done this in my modification. The shot suggests that there is something happening, and the viewer is left wondering what it is, but that's a good thing, keep them wondering. The child is clinging onto the rail with both hands. Now, it may just be that she is having some sort of tantrum, but the intrigue continues. I can understand why you were unsure about it, but it is growing on me each time I look at it.
Pamela.

Sorry for the late reply - seems I missed out the e-mail notice.

Martin - The darkening on the sides lead the eye a bit more to the face I think?

Pamela - Definitely a crop that brings her out more. i think cropping is really difficult. To draw the line for what adds value to the image or not. And this seems like a better compromise as she otherwise is not visible enough. Which she is in your version!
