Another visit to the Saddlers Club in Walsall last night.

Chris Nabarro (in black) throws Nicky Syxx around the ring...

Don't think of this as competitive sport: consider it as gymnastics and a comic-book confrontation between good and evil.

Really interesting technical note: an Alpha 55 works far better for this than my 900.

So maybe Sony are onto something with SLT cameras, for certain types of shot?

It always used to be good for a laugh on the tele when I was a kid.

Great mods, Roy: I especially like the B/W version. Reminds me of Kent Walton's commentary and Les Kellet fooling around in the ring on Saturday afternoons...

I'm afraid your shutter speed was too slow to freeze this action (I appreciate you did the right thing in shooting in aperture priority but, judging by your exif figures, not opening up to the full f1.7 has limited you to too slow a shutter speed) and your focus is on the wrestler in black's knees, rather than on the faces. It would be better if at least one of the faces was visible too.

Apologies if I sound overly harsh with this critique but if I point out all the bits where the image can get better, hopefully it'll help rather than not giving you any constructive comments at all.

I'm not at all sure that freezing the action is what it's all about - I'd call myself a pictorialist rather than a sports tog.

The point about focus is well made: more practice necessary. However, opening up to f/1.7 might make this far worse...
