Taken on my 300m before I purchased the Sigma 500m. It was getting near 3.30pm and in the Winter, I did not get a chance to adjust anything as I saw it running and knew it would jump the wall. I used my Canon 40d on AV and f5.0. I was still too near to get him all in! I like the photo as they are much more exciting on the move.

As you say yourself, it's a shame you weren't able to get all of him in the frame, it would have made a great shot.
I reckon it would be possible to do so with some effort in software if you were that bothered but I haven't done so in my mod!
What I have done, in fact, all I have done is to apply an "S" curve to add some contrast and emphasise the highlights.
