Looking up or looking down?

One of the spiral staircases at Seaton Delaval Hall, Northumberland here.

Unfortunately you cannot climb any of the staircases as they are at present in a state of disrepair and very dangerous. Hopefully they can be restored to their former glory.

V2 is a mono adaptation and V3 is a view of this splendid house.

Thank you for all your wonderful comments and votes.

Carol

Looking up...
I rather like V2, it's cooler, it has a harmony plus the tone of mellow marble.
Looking at this I reckon it would work pretty well at any of the other three rotations available too.

Hi Moira, I agree about the rotations. This is how I took it, but I did deliberate whether to turn it. In the end I decided to leave it as was!! thanks for your comment.

Up or down, they both make you dizzy!! Interestingly it isn't a spiral at all, it's a helix (my thanks to Spephen Fry on QI for that!).

A wonderful capture - definitely looking up! Wink As Dave says, according to Stephen Fry on Q1 a spiral reduces it's size as it goes in towards the centre, whereas a 'spiral' staircase is the same diameter all the way up, so they should be called helix staircases! Wink Anyway, it's V2 as my fave, Carol Smile

An impressive upward view of this magnificent staircase which in turn has been very well captured and composed within the frame. For me the colour variant works so much better than the mono, the wash of green hues adding a wonderful injection of colour. Image two well that's is just how I remember Seaton Delaval Hall. A superb example of Baroque Architecture, and one which never fails to impress.

Ooo...I love spiral staircases, Carol, and you've captured this one beautifully! VERY tough fight between Vs 1 and 2. Love the toning you used in V2, by the way Smile
