Thank you for stopping by and for votes and c'c on the Openbilled Stork - much appreciated.
I've always wanted to take natural relfection shots but either been on the wrong side of the pond or the animal was standing against the sun - well this time it finally worked.
I would like the team to critique this shot (or anyone that can give constructive critique) in particular interested in their views on post processing and composition - thank you Ina

A cracking reflection, Ina, not only of baby, but mother, too. Very well composed and captured. Carol

A great shot Ina - summing up Africa very well - perhaps there is another shot in the picture - just the baby on its own with out the distraction of mum!!

Hi Ina.
I like the composition as it is, baby a bit central but the other elements make up for that, love the protectiveness of mum, by the way is that a lion in the background in the trees?

Regards

Trev.

I think it's spot-on as it is, Ina. The mother in the background balances the image perfectly I think.

This is a lovely scene so well executed as is. There is however also the panorama style shot of the baby alone with reflection as already mentioned and so easy to clone out mum in the tree reflection, two shots for the 'price' of one, clever. RomneyWink

Great shot !!!!.....lovely capture, with both animals positioned nicely !!!

My only feeling, is there's a bit too much 'space' in the shot......so I've done a mod. to try & give a little more 'impact' to
the scene, by cropping, moving the upper animal to the left a bit, then adjusting tones & contrast to 'lift' the colours etc. !!!!
Finally, added a thin black border to hold everything in !!

See what you think ??....regards....Keith.

As Ron says, a great natural capture and I actually like it just as it is too. I do, however, take Keith's (Niknut) point and think his mod works well. The image tells a story - Mum in the background is watching over her youngster and to cut that aspect out does actually lose a lot of the story. I've had a quick go at removing Mum and her reflection (not brilliant), but it then becomes rather an ordinary image and still think your original (and Keith's mod) work best Smile

I think your comp is good as it is Ina, however it's a pity you didn't have a little more space at the top and a little less at the bottom to tighten things up, having said that I don't know if you were already zoomed right out at 70mm. Tried a mod to see if it works Wink

Thank you to all for having a go with some mods - much appreciated - Yes Geoff this was taken @ 70mm. You are all right to some extend - what bothered me from the original is the fact that I just couldn't get the top of the tree into the shot & taking mom and the tree out of it but leaving the reflection of them in just didn't look right. Unfortunately I just haven't got the computer skills to follow Keith's suggestion but thank you for your imput, much appreciated. Very grateful for the fact that some other Giraffe came down to drink & the comp on them worked better. Will upload a shot of one of them at some point - Ina

I think the upright mod helps a good shot become a really good shot, I love the mothers reflection in the water, well done.

Why try and alter something that really doesn't need altering. You always need some post processing with a digital image - a little sharpening usually, but I'm sure you know this really doesn't need anything you have not already done.

Fine photography.
