I decided to have a quick play with my food again this evening - well the Aubergines won't last forever although the Garlic has been knocking around for weeks now
Happily I got the light in the right place and the only hiccup was my taking a while to figure out why I couldn't see anything on the screen, or viewfinder, was that I'd switched it to live view last night
A quick visit to the menu and bingo I could see again.
I'm gradually getting the camera set up as I like - it'll be nice to be able to take it out sometime and try some of the other goodies like 10fps - my old camera was 3 fps I think. First I have to find suitable subject matter. So far so good though - I'm very happy with it.

Not sure about the pumpkins. The colour detracts from the brilliant overall tone - all seemingly related to the purple of the aubergines. The overall effect is just tremendous....makes me feel hungry....

Great still life, love the low light, very subtle. Well done.

Thanks folks ![]()
Any suggestions what to use instead of the pumpkins? I'll be going past a supermarket on the way home tomorrow so can easily pick up something else!
I'm not using RAW yet Keith - I only got the camera on Thursday, had a busy weekend, and have yet to use it in anger. It's rather nice though and an excellent pressie from my boss ![]()
These are very intelligent Eggplants you know - all my veggies have very high IQs ![]()
You have a new camera, I am very envious. I am very intrigued with the miniature pumpkins, are they special baby ones or what, I'm supposed I'm just used to seeing them at sizes so big they can hardly be lifted!. The arrangement works well but the candle is disappointing, it's quite hardly to see that the flame is actually burning (couldn't you 'cheat' a bit and make it a bit more dramatic!) ![]()
Thanks again folks - I did peruse the veg in Lidl at lunchtime but nothing took my fancy - maybe Tesco will have something but I'm not holding my breath! I know the Wholefood Market has Artichokes but it's not all that convenient to get to on the way home and besides they're not exactly cheap and cheerful.
Yes Arietty - these mini pumpkins appear in the shops for Halloween and then disappear again. I'm hoping they'll eventually dry out and not go off - so far they're holding up well. I think I need to do a bit of work on the candle itself and get the top levelled off a bit. The flame does rather hide at the best of times and admittedly I think a dark bit of texture is over the top - I did move it up but not enough. I guess I could indeed cheat - I prefer not to but sometimes needs must ![]()
I'l try another arrangement this evening and see what happens.
