This is the start of a new series. I went to Ca Mau, the southernmost city in Vietnam and its wonderful “water taxi women” (see previous uploads) in order to catch a speed boat to Cape Mui Ca Mau National Park at the southern end of Vietnam.
It was a most interesting day starting on an overcrowded boat. I don’t know how many passengers were supposed to be on board but we were well over the limit. Health and Safety does not exist in Vietnam .
We were 3 people on seats designed for 2 and there were people seating on plastic seats in the middle aisle. So no possibility of escape in an emergency except through the windows. luckily I was seating next to one.
The boat went at speed on the waterways and stopped quite often in villages along the way or in the middle of nowhere. At each stop, there were people squeezing themselves out of the low ceiling boat while other passengers were boarding.
The journey was supposed to last 1 and a half hour but we got to Mui Ca Mau in over 2 hours but it was great fun.
