A classic pose Lillian, You mention the crop which has added more noise it has also reduced the detail in the feathers to give a wet appearance and looks as though oversharpening to get detail has caused this. Also strong chromation from over processing.
Not at all to other photos you have produced.
Sorry to be honest but truthful, but no doubt a lot will say wonderful. I would bin it straight away to be honest.

I agree that it is a little noisy, Lillian, but I think the plumage detail is fine, can't see any wetness, and if there is, maybe he has recently had a bath? Like it a lot. Carol

The black rim all the way round the bird also shows oversharpening and misuse of shadows/highlights. Am I the only one who see's this?

Love how he's posed for you, Lillian! Wink Doesn't look 'wet' to me, but think I would have selected the whole of the background and reduced the noise. Still a lovely capture, though! Wink

Whats the new camera Lillian? Perhaps it has better high ISP performance!

Under the circumstances, high ISO, tight crop, this is still quite a nice image

A lovely, clear capture Lillian, his pose is wonderful and his feathers are beautifully coloured. Hope you have a lovely trip and I sincerely hope this is NOT your last upload. Some people are blatently rude and have no feelings or manners in any way shape or form - in my opinion there is no excuse for that.

Lillian, Mossy's comments are truthful, and what he says is correct, what he doesn't say is that the composition is well balanced, and the out of focus highlights presented as bokeh give a very good feel to the image. But it is let down by oversharpening.

Now what we have tried to create here is a site where everyone can post, and hopefully learn and improve. We encourage critical comments, because those who want to learn can gain a great deal from the help of others.

It would be a shame to stifle that, but it would also be a shame to lose people like yourself over one comment. So we're stuck in an ever challenging circle. I hope you reconsider. Is it not possible to skip over comments that you don't like or don't agree with?

No problem with being critical, Pete, but it's what and how you write, and to say that Lillian's images are just 'SNAPS' was way out of order.

It's a good effort considering the EXIF data and large crop Lillian as has been mentioned , the comp is good and you have caught the bird in a classic pose. However, although I agree with the critique here I would certainly re consider your decision especially when you are capable of producing such super shots like you have in your frog series and more......keep em coming

Geoff.

I had similar critique on my tree shot Lillian and for once I refused to let it upset me, I know your current circumstances have naturally left you feeling vulnerable but please DO NOT give up when you post as Geoff so rightly says "superb frog shots" that you have produced recently.

Lillian please don't let this person upset you. We'd all miss you and your images so much if you go. Sometimes it's not entirely about the technicalities (which you're so well capable of getting right, as we all know), but the friendship and goodwill. So if someone decides he's in a bit of a strop and makes some heavy handed remarks please don't get disheartened. Just think of all the terrific work you've done and let it pass.

Having been out taking photos I've just got back and seen world war three has broken out!

My stance on this is that the first comment left was reasonable - it's the view of a photographer and some people will agree and some won't.
If the comment was placed in a hounding / bullying fashion it should be reported with evidence of other activity and action will be taken.

Do not retaliate in the thread.

Do not send PMs to each other escalating the issue

It's been suggested that the site is becoming more social than photography.
My reply The balance is not intending to shift...it's always been a photographic social network...we were a social network before social networks existed. That's what made and still makes us more popular and the reason why most reading this will have formed friendships on here and some will have even met with other photographers, because we have always encouraged that.

Remember people are at different levels of skill, those at a lower level will always admire people who take better photos than them.
The whole purpose of this site is to give photographers somewhere to be together. Whether that's to learn, share, discuss, create, - not to fight or ruffle feathers, but some don't seem able to avoid doing that which is so disheartening from my point of view. Not something I ever planned in the development of the site.

I've responded to the reports now and hopefully we can come to a friendly conclusion and put this behind us.

Happy New Year.... please!!!!

It is a wonderful nuthatch pose and lovely eye contact ....and sadly, the weather is bad. So there are circumstances which cause grain. All my low light shots have lots of it and so what. It people don't like it they can tell me if they want to but yes, please be polite.

Lilian PLEASE do not take this to your heart. I was once attacked in a photo forum because my French grammar was then pretty bad (it hasn't improved much... but I've learned to work my way round certain pitfalls). And I reacted like you do now. I felt hurt and treated unfairly and I left. I'm am glad here no one picks on foreigners so I love to stay.

You are much better than I am at wildlife photography. Maybe I'm better at Landrovers. But this is not a competition, critique should be allowed but never ever HURT people's feelings. We are here to learn from each other and I have learned a lot in 7 months. There are whole sections on this site I don't care about and I'd never comment on them. Because I'm here to enjoy and to do something which is not Landrovers.

Lovely pose and bokeh Lillian.Grin

Please do not leave us - I have said on more than one occasion you are our wildlife queen and I will reiterate that!

Your images are often spell binding and show us the true beauty of the amazing animals and birds with which we share our planet.

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, produces a first rate image every time, even if some think they do. Criticism is good, but there is a way of "saying" everything and being rude and bombastic is not the way to do it.

So, please stick with us lady friend. It will be EP's loss if you no longer participate.

Sue x

Hey, Lillian, your photographs are superb. Perception is subjective, which is sometimes over-ruled by those people who think that you have to stick to a totally dogmatic set of rules to create good images.
EPZ will be the less if you leave. You have a lot of friends and followers (and yes this site should be about friendship and photography, not just the latter, Pete).
Keep on taking the great pictures, they are top work.

and sorry I have not replied...I would still be trying to answer them now
Just know they have meant a great deal to me.
I will upload again soon...so until then.. Be safe and happy
