Another specialist of the Arctic is the Walrus, they can weigh over a ton and are almost impervious to Polar Bear attack ( only young and sick individuals are normally taken, a Polar Bear panics the herd and the resulting rush to the sea some may be trampled to death ) These feed on mollusc's on the ocean floor using those bristles on their upper lips. The tusks are used to haul out on ice and for defence and battles for females, not to dig around for food.

Very interesting write up Ron. A super illustrative image filling the frame with excellent detail, sensibly taken with the longest zoom possible. Smile

It always surprises me what such huge creatures live on. I mean, molluscs!!! It's like whales feeding on plankton. It seems the smaller the food the bigger the animal.

Lovely soft colours and great skin tones Ron, good composition with the tusks criss crossing in the frame. Watched a TV prog on them, part of a series.

Wonderful frame-fillers! Glad you were so far away as I don't like the way they're looking back at you.

Love the way you've gone in close, filling the frame with some remarkably graceful curves.

Getting a group of people to pose so well is a pain... How did you do it, Ron?

Plenty of blubber on these beasts to fill the frame, nicely done.
