Being a fan of 'War of the Worlds' I thought I'd give this picture a go. I've already spent hours on it, but I don't feel its finished yet, but I can't seem to work out what to do to make it look better.
I was hoping a few of you seeing this might be able to offer some ideas and modify it so it looks a bit better, or at least offer some ideas so I can end up with a fantastic image.
Thanks in advance for any input, especially if you take up the challenge and submit a modified image...

Far from me to give really good feedback on composite images, one thing that does stand out to me is the obvious way that the girls have been put into the image. Perhaps you could create drop shadows beneath their feet to anchor them into the shot. At the moment, they look as if they are floating on the grass.

Regards,

Dave

LOL great idea, But a massive project to work on.....!!!

There may be other areas, But one that stikes me straight away is the lack of shadows on the ground from the fleeing girls and aliens.

It might benefit from the girls looking " Grungier " and possible the whole scene darkened to look a bit more menacing....!!!

Post apocalypse styleeeee.....Smile

If I have time might play with a mod later....

Thanks for both your comments, its only now, that I am seeing exactly how big a project I've embarked on!!
Dave - Will add some shadows, thanks for that tip.
Cameracat - Like the idea of grungier and post apocalypse style, I'm interested to see the result if you can play with a mod a little later...

I do like your idea, and parts work well - the burning building. Other bits are very obviously montage - particularly the girls. Not sure how to improve, but they currently really do look stuck on.

Possibly more of an overall smoke effect and some desaturation of images as the colours are very strong and vivid. You have set yourself a very difficult project.

Paul

Thanks Paul, it is a difficult project, but one I've not given up on either. I will put in some shadows to anchor the girls and tripods and try desaturating some of the colours. I will add a few more people into the picture running, so as to make it look like its not just two people running and a third being fried!!

I like War Of The Worlds, too.
Just a few observations:-
1. At first glance, it took me a while to realise what was happening, and I think the aliens, or maybe just their lasers, need to be more imposing, the thing that captures the attention immediately.
2. The girls look too much alike, maybe they are the same girl in a different dress. Even the waist sashes are falling the same. Also, they are in the same mid-run position. This looks far too balanced to me, as does their positioning. Also, the girl on the left looks as if she is running INTO the fire, so maybe she could be mirrored.
3. The fire at the front runs out of the bottom frame. Maybe it could be complete? This laser and fire are positioned very centrally in the frame, and I feel that if it were offset, and at an angle, it would be better. For me, overall, there is too much symmetry, the girls either side, the same size, the fire in the centre, etc.
4. I like a lot of the background, but feel that some of the smoke could be utilized to create a more menacing atmosphere by spreading it around a bit more instead of just having pillars of it. I think that burning building could have larger and more dramatic flames, rather like the one in the foreground.
5. The girls do look a bit "stuck on" and shadows will help.
6. The man being fried is quite small and it look me a while to find him.
Pamela.

Thanks Pamela, I will continue to work on this image and take on board everything you have said, you've raised some interesting points. It is the same girl, but I changed the colour of her dress in the left hand image of her, but both shots were from different frames. The symmetry had escaped me and I will try moving the laser blast in the foreground more onto a third and widen the lazer beam. I think the smoke will add to the atmosphere. I will play around with it further and upload another version soon so you see how I get on with it.
Thank you all for your tips and advice, its very helpful and intuitive.
