Weevil "Green-Evil" :)

Sorry for the pun, but this daredevil nettle weevil was doing stunts around the head of a welsh poppy this afternoon, and I managed a few shots, most not good, but this one turning out decent.

It maybe was anticipating the imminent downpour which forced the few minutes worth of the session to be abandoned as I wasn't keeping my gear outside in the garden with the rain threatening to fall heavily, as it duly did seconds later.

Anyhow, as I say, got one which passes muster so thought I would share it with you.

It's latin name is Phyllobius pomaceus - though there are several species of small (6 - 8mm) metallic green weevils served by the common name nettle weevil. They are very similar and they cannot be separated by the naked eye. The adults of these weevils feed on the leaves of various plants. Many of these are common in gardens and can often be found perched on the leaves of plants and shrubs, including nettles. Fortunately, I don't have nettles in the back garden but other plants obviously suffice!
