All great shots but I particularly like the tones and the gulls in #1.

so No1 is the same as yesterday's no. 2 with a saturation boost?

I can see that it will have more appeal, and it does suit lots of colour, but with that it makes it look more banded - a bit like my duck shot yesterday. light - dark - light.

2 holds a bit more interest with the varied angles of the masts, quite a nice effect - but like 1, it's pleasant but not really grabbing me, mainly down to familiarity. Seen this shot 1000 times before... (perfect for the experiment)

3 is far more interesting - first you've gone mono so we're concentrating on teh shapes and composition rather than the lovely colours. I like taht. then the zig zag draws you from the bottom right thruogh to the crooked pole at the end. Lots more interesting than the boats. I'd probably have got to a lower angle to take the shot myself, you're almost looking down on top of the bits at the foot of the shot, but that's a personal style decision rather than owt sinister.

Yeah - so the creative mono beats the lovely landscape for me.

I'm no expert in this field Phil, I do mainly bird shots etc, but I must say I like the composition and presentation here very much. Decided yesterday after much deliberation to join a 'Camera club' and not one member was into wildlife so I'm not sure weather or not I will stay the course.
Thank you for your very kind comment on my Crested Pigeon, very much appreciated.
Geoff.

An intersting example of 'the experiment' - slightly confused by having three images rather than two and I am not entirely sure I really know which is the 'fluffy' image and which is the 'lets get down to business and do serious but unapEPZealing' shots, is?

The 'tin lid' V2 promises so much more than the very mildly challenging V3 (and probably only mildly challenging because of the mono treatment - would you have posted a colour version? and if you had posted a mono version of V2 might that have then taken on the mantle of unapEPZealing?).

So I am trying to judge this not on colour or lack of it and I still think V2 has much more on offer. Leave it three months and post the reverse, V2 in mono and V3 in colour and see how the result compares?

BTW I wish I had a thimbulfull of your talent - all are quite excellent.

Robert

Robert,
the front image was the back image yesterday, just to see how the clicking, / preferences went in reverse, The V2 was a 2 for the price of one, throwaway, an ok sort of picture that you take moving around a subject working it for the best angle, but not interesting enough to upload and thus semi unfriendly, the third image although possibly unchallanging was a picture i just personally like and one i had to work hardish on to get something on a rubbish day, and yet i knew in my heart it would be epz unfriendly, in this experiment i can post it . it fits the challange put down to me.
thanks everyone for taking the time to look and comment.

Nice set of images Phil, V3 for me but I think it could do with a boost on the contrast a little, to give it a bit of lift! Your images are always of a consistantly high standard and these are no different - keep on posting mate!

Well, I think I might be missing something here, but for me all three would get a vote - for different reasons, all of with have been expounded by others above. Colours - great, super, also subject matter (sea, Norfolk...) and the mono is a dead ringer for a shot I took myself at Walcott earlier this year - but with less success! Smile
