The stonework is not on the boat here but on the harbour edge at Dunbar. It marks the spot where there once stood a Roman fort when they were here many moons ago.I have heard all about what these Romans did for us but they must have been a messy lot as they never even tidied up before they left.It was nice of them to leave their boat behind though !!

This boat has aged well Mick, if the Romans had built the Titanic we'd still be using the ice cubesSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile, nice shot,

Gosh, Mick, almost verging on landscapes today: good clean shot of the boat filling the frame but with the inevitable odds and ends that just add to the flavour of the shot.
Even a touch of rust there, I think, on the keel plate and the rudder needs a a bit of refreshening.
Ronnie.

What a great find! You did well to make such a great story out of it, Mick. The old boat fills the frame nicely - someone's in the middle of giving it some well needed t.l.c. Highly amused by the stonework appearing to be actually on the boat! and all that foreground clutter - are you sure you hadn't had a picnic?!!!GrinGrinGrin

The Romans must have built very strong boats to carry all that fancy stonework.

Well spotted, Mick.

"Romanes eunt domus"? People called Romanes, they go, the house?

Excellent title... one of the funniest films I've seen.

Some Roman inventions have stood the test of time better than others. The stone boat sank without trace in history...
Meanwhile that bucket sits immediately below the plank. Presumably for diving practice?

Clearly the most important thing the Romans did for us was invent the little-known but highly artistic pastime of dry-land boating, Mick.
These days it is mostly confined to the south-east coast of England - witness the large number of uploads from Dungeness, mine included - but here you have supplied incontrovertible evidence of its existence north of Hadrian's Wall.
Thank you for supplying this valuable historical documentation!
Regards
Bill

This really made me chuckle, 'cos I thought it was on the boat itself! You're right about the Romans - when I visited the Forum and the Colosseum recently they still hadn't finished building them, but left them in ruins! Wink

Brilliant pov, Mick, really looks as though the stonework is balanced on the plank. The one thing I am spectacularly hopeless at is history, these Romans of yours made some nice tidy blinds, had some eye catching noses and wore a great line in off the shoulder dresses (men as well)Wink

Wood stone sand all diffrent texture...
Very nice work...
May have need a bit more room for boat rear end as I think if there a push back you have area that the baot can go in to...
As you can see there is a wall in front..

Nice work..
