i dont know much about Wheatears, other than they come up from Africa in spring........Chats are a group of birds im not in the habit of watching that closely, and i think there can be a fair amount of colour variation
so i was thrown by how rufous this female was
........thats of course if it is a female wheatear.........
the shot was taken on Handa last year
(i haven't seen any locally here yet, although i'm sure some must have arrived back)

Lovely image Maggie of quite a difficult bird to spot, I find the little bit of foliage in the far right a little distracting, But this could easily be cloned or cropped away. The real strong point of the image though is the off centre composition and DOF, good work!

A fine shot of the female of the species, I don't find the foliage a problem at all. I prefer shots of birds in the wild in their natural environment, beats a posed bird on a stick anyday!
