... and Whippy Whappy was the Abbey, or at least that's what my kids called them when they were 'knee-high to grasshoppers'. This is the East Pier (I hope) looking back to St Mary's Church. There wasn't much room between this edifice and the end of the pier so I've had to correct a fair amount of vertical distortion. I've also used a bit of 'fill light' when processing the Raw file to bring out the texture and colour of the stonework which was a bit dark against the sky. The resultant tonal range looked as though it would convert well to mono, which I did, and was going to upload as v1 (but 'bottled' it and led with the colour
).
Apologies for mostly clicks yesterday, spent the day as a muggle at the Harry Potter Studio Tour, Watford.

Both good both well captured, plus good info . enjoyed it.
John
This succeeds on several levels including that of self-preservation! So easy at that precise spot to look up and fall backwards.
Your work on perspective and tones/textures has worked fine; the sky is good too. What I like most is the composition, with the like of the pier curving gracefully round and linking seamlessly with the steep path leading up to Henrietta Street. But I can't decide between colour and mono.
Bill
To me Dave you are tops in point of view. My choice in V1 V2 well no choice as you really should not be choosing Between B&W.
Well done lad. WesternRed.
I'm not sure V1 or V2 actually. I always like the colour you produced, I think that it's your advantage. So, I might go for V1. I just thought if extended canvas would help to keep a bit of sky and free transform would keep it as some kind of shape that you like it to be...
I think colour is my favourite here - a fine piece of work here Dave ![]()

Yes, it's definitely the East Pier, Dave
A fine capture here looking back towards St Marys - like both versions, but the colour wins for me ![]()

hi Dave, i really like both versions they each convey completely different interperatations of the capture and you have done a good job on the perspective. lots of detail in the stonework, windows and railings. As usual you have done your own critique which i really enjoy, well done.
Darryl
Like both versions Dave but colour is my preference today, excellent composition and tones.
Regards
Trev.
I think you may guess what caught my eye here Dave ?
A good bit of rusty rail here.
Quite a rare sight as health and safety dictates nowadays to have them replaced,
so I suspect this fine bit of ''artwork'' days are numbered !!
Super shot.
Mick.
Good work on taking the pisa out of this structure, Dave
The use of fill light has done its stuff, too. Congrats. on not falling off the end of the pier.
The meandering path leads us from the lighthouse to the distant cottages as a natural link.
In v2, may I suggest a tad more contrast and running a blue filter over it to dramatise the sky?
Malc
Great POV.. Great composition.. And V1 today for the colour.. Brings out more detail imho
Colour for me here too Dave. The sky loses a bit of its impact in the mono,
Alun
Excellent images, coloured for my choice.
Thank you for your encouragement, it is appreciated.
Christine
bottled it is right, looks like a gritty bottle of a harbour light.
for once I prefer v2, the grit shows best
I think the colour version works better here Dave. Well composed and you have balanced the exposure perfectly.
Derek
Superb p.o.v.and compo. Both versions are great with the mono taking the trick for me.
Lavina
This is a cracking view Dave.
I’m really liking the mono.
