Iíd always meant to take a trip up to the top of the old stone lighthouse on the West Pier, so actually got round to doing it this time whilst still in Whitby. The lighthouse was built in 1831 and stands 83 feet high and has 81 steps up to the top. It was replaced by the new West Pier Light in 1914, two years after the West Pier extension was added. Itís certainly worth the climb up, and offers a good view looking back along the pier and of Whitby. I had in mind this panorama, so four of the images I shot whilst up there were stitched together to make up todayís upload.
Must be seen large if you have the time!
