Fantastic shot. The acrobatics and angle are great, but I also love the guy who's quietly walking away from it all.
Moira
I examined the previous image and I don't think I like this as much. I was on the side that favoured seeing the background to put the sport in context, rather than shortenning the depth of field to blur the background. In theory this shot should have given me more context, but, something does not seem to work.
Timing is perfect, the person on the far side of the net has great presence and determination. It may just be the face of the person on this side of the net is unseen, and therefore I can't see his reaction to what has just happened.
Still it is great to see images other than flowers and birds.
he he... see you had a go at blurring... veeeeery tricky, isn't it ![]()
to be honest Moira, the kid walking away is about the only thing that bothers me in this pic. Well, that, and the left guy 'holding the wire' with his hand.
Another fab action shot Koen, timing is great as is the dynamic angle of the net and shot in general.
I also quite like the selective blurring on the mod, not sure if it makes it better, just different. Quality shot, gets my solid vote.
And btw, farherhood is..........busy! But awesome. ![]()
I think the previous one had a lot more impact. I've been studying both to try to put my finger on why. I think the angle of the camera in this one is a little disorientating for the viewer. Some would argue with justification that the camera angle suits the subject matter. I think the player on the left makes more impact in the last shot because he is looking more towards the camera and his placing in the frame is perhaps in keeping with the 'Rule of Thirds'. I also think there is too much sky and the eye is drawn to the TV ariel and wires too much. I'll try a mod and if I come up with anything, I'll post it. John
It is a fine action shot Koen, and something I could'nt do in a zillion years. But I find it overly busy and just too confusing for the old eyeballs. IMO the background is fighting for attention and detracting from the main characters. My mod is again on the theme of toning down the background and I've gone for an arty zoom blur. Pretty crap really but I enjoyed fiddling with it.
No, the kid's body language is a great contrast to the main action. He's had enough, he's off out of it. The image might be cleaner and better composed in abstract terms without him, but he adds a lot to the human interest for me.
Moira
thanks again for the interesting opinions, taking the time to comment, and mod. surprised at the quality of the mods really. the closer crop works and can imagine it to be a prefered one for those who find the bg distractive. Dave's zoom blur looks soooo fake, but also rather irresistable, and is also giving quite some relief at the bg distraction, so must have a go at that lol. I would even add the effect as well in the sky part in the middle ? Anyway, it's my fav of the 3 mods (wait... I'll be right back... have to go rinse my mouth)
Moira, sometimes it is a disadvantage to have been there I guess. For you it is relevant to the story, or part of it...whereas I happen to know it's just a little boy walking by and going for an ice cream in the shop down below. Wish I could have your eyes for this one lol.
Great dynamic shot. contrary to some I love the fact that there's so much screaming for attention here. That's what I like about life anyway so why not capture it in a good photo? Oh, and Koen, that includes the little boy walking away from the scene. On important business no doubt. Bert
This is very good Koen, part of a good series. Uploaded a mod, see if you can work out what has been done ![]()
phew... difficult one paul. Only difference I see is that your version is a bit less saturated, and the sky in mine is brighter.
excellent action shot, well captured.
like the arm that runs vertically with the building easier on the eye for a busy image
