My 5D (KM) is back from being repaired and waiting for it was a Sigma 10-20mm lens. So what else do I test it on but the Lovell telescope close to sunset today.

This is a HDR image from 5 images (+/- 4,2,0 EV), combined in Photomatix.

Cheers, I must admit the 10-20 is lots of fun and it seems pretty sharp too when stopped down a bit.

Excellent image. The red spot near the path looks like lens flare to me - ? worth cloning out?

A very striking image. I have to agree with Steve that the lens flare should be removed though.

Fantastic Ant - like the wide angle and high view point!

Can't help thinking it looks slightly unatural however with the colour and blending, still - it's beautifully composed and the numbers of different elements make it spot on...

Inspiring work from both you and the 5D Smile

Goodness, cheers all for the comments. Yes Gilly the 'lens flare' below the Sun is our Sun sculpture (though there is some real flare to the left of it near the 'pagoda').

Caleb, yes as ever HDR can give this over saturated look - it is quite dramatic when you compare the results with the original frames. I try to resist going too far but it is very easily done!

this works well in wide angle as it creates a sence of scale, I like the sun light hitting the telescope..

well done on the sunset. ian

Only 54 votes for this!

This is quite simply outstanding. I've seen images on EPZ not even a tenth as good as this qith over 100 votes. You must have been well chuffed with this image and an incredible amount of detail.

I've been, I saw, I photographed (but didn't better!)

Andrew.
