Travelling up the Mekong river just north of Chau Doc on the Vietnam Cambodia border, we went ashore. We came to a small village and Dora spotted him, I managed to get a couple of pix of this man, an elder in the community.
We saw many scenes that would have been incomperehensable prior to this trip. All in a time of peace for this neck of the woods. The south east Asia languages are very difficult & we didn't have enough time.
In our modern world, I wish it were possible, to sit with him in his village and for him to convey his story and enhance my understandings eh!
Too many places, not enough time. Missed it that time will make mental note for next one.
Thanks for looking
Martin

Looks like a very good travel type portrait to me. Quality is holding up well for long lens and high ISO.
You saw this man alive and moving in his environment so know a little of his "story". To me just viewing the 'snapshot' he looks like a mean old man, maybe one to avoid!. Every picture tells a story.
Seems like a good pic for your memories or the type that might accompany an article about how hard life is in that country.
Great shot anyway, Ian
A fine shot under the circumstances martin. Good high ISO performance from the 5D2. The shutter speed was a little slow for the focal length, but it has worked out.
As you might notice, the shot is a little flat, - which menas that there are no true black areas, and with a little work using levels and pulling in the left slider to meet the graph, the shot looks better.
Its slight soft from a sharpness perspective, but this can be improved with some addition sharpening.
Ive loaded a mod with these changes made, - in addition I toned down the bright white of the shirt.
Hope this is helpful
Regards
Willie
Another great shot in this series.
The thing that struck me was the focus, which is a little soft on his face. It's better on his hat & moreso on his shoulder, which is where I suspect the camera settled, this being the closest point of focus.
I think it's close enough that with a little sharpening in PS it can probably be corrected, although you may need to use high-pass to fully correct it. I'd use selective sharpening, just around the face, as the rest of the shot doesn't need it.
Thanks guys, of course your all right, all I've got to do now is learn photoshop!!
