As a Photographic judge you judge the whole image including border! this border is overpowering the main subject so would loose a lot of marks, none of the main image is sharp so overall would not do well in competitions, the colours are great because they compliment each other.

I have done a mod where I have

1. Rotated the image as I felt it looked better that way.
2. Did a tad of sharpening
3. Darkened some of the lighter streaks going out of the picture using the overlay layer.

Hope you like it.

re the border, it does not bother me too much as I like the whole image as it is different. If you were to enter it in a competition then the judge might well criticise it for the border, as achieverswales has pointed out. However, if you like it as it is then that is good.

The modification has helped this no end as it is sharper but still it is not focused well>

I rather like the basic idea, an attempt to be different, but it does need to be rather sharper, and this one is a bit too far out for software.

Mod his good, and my jury is out on the border - probably a bit heavy.

Im on the fence with tradition.

You have to ask yourself , was this an exercise in presentation / p.s skills or an attempt to show off what ultimately is a rather unimaginative subject.

How a wavy mono border is supposed to support a flower is , erm . Subjective.

Try various border/subject ideas , right down to a simple keyline.

I like the sharpening Pamela has given your Dianthus. It is good to try new ways of presenting subjects
