The strong winds were wiping the waves onto at Godrevy the rocks, where they exploded into great balls of spray, while I perched precariously on the edge of the slippery rocks, trying to remain upright while shielding the front of the lens/filter with the lee filter pouch.
Wipe the ND grad with the lens cloth - itself getting increasingly wet, and only able to smudge the sea spray around the filter - while protecting with the filter pouch. Then wait - for the light to shine, then the right wave to hit. Wait that bit longer as the worst of the spray whips past my face, then pull the pouch aside and take the shot. Quickly cover again, and 'clean' ready for the next shot. If I had any fingers free, then I would be crossing them hoping that the shots are working.
It's difficult working so slow when there is so much action going on, but it's the only way in conditions like this.

Fab capture, Matt!
Well worth the effort!

Had the exact same experience on the North Wales coast last week in the wake of hurricane Kaita. Didn't get anything nearly as nice as this though, and spent an eternity trying to clean the sea salt off every bit of kit.
You've caught a great shot, in spite of the frustrations of shooting like this, nice one. ![]()

Your meticulous and careful approach really paid off Matt.
