I like the arrangement in this shot, & the mono treatment has a full range of tones resulting in a great image....100% improvement over the first version. I do have a couple of minor suggestions...the clouds look to be very imposing, so....if you could take a few steps to the left, frame the main tree so that it frames the RH hills with the two smaller bushes underneath & include much more of that cloud formation..I reckon that would push the shot from 9/10, to a full blown 10/10....still a fine image nontheless !!!!
This is an improvment compositionaly from the first shot, It has potential, I would have moved to the right if pos to stop the upper branches hitting the clouds.
There is enough texture and presence in the tree for the shot to be stark and minimalist, that said its a decent mono, maybe needs a touch more contrast.
I do like Niknuts mod too.
compositionally this has everything the other did not, its very good.
it has the clean uncomplicated, uncluttered minimal design approach that makes good prints.
the processing im still unsure about, have you experimented with the presets yet.
there may be scope to remove a slither from the base and i agree extending the canvas to the left side is an improvement but this has a lot going for it

Niknut - like your mod, the extra cloud balances the photo.
NewManP - I had a play with the presets, this was the green filter I used, but I also liked the red filter as well. I find it very difficult to choose which filter I preferred for this shot (with the exception of the blue filter as it took too much detail out the tree).
Composition was tricky for this shot as it's on a beach, to the left you've got lots of sun loungers so I wanted to keep them out of view. Ideally I would have liked to get a shot when there was no cloud in the sky.
love the composition, but agree with all the other points said above...
