I'm afraid that it's another unseasonable image as I catch up with my winter portfolio. As before this was taken in Windsor Great Park.

The conditions meant that it came out as almost monochromatic and it's an effect that I quite like here - any thoughts ?

Thanks for looking and all comments, good or bad, welcome

It's a beautiful composition, I like the frame and the subject. IB

Gaz, the picture is nice but its in almost equal two parts. I would suggest to compose for the sky part more so that the deer will also be off center. Also I will make it more darker. I will upload the mod. Deep

Gaz, I think you could have done with a larger zoom lens, as the deer looks small in such a large area.

Thanks all for your comments and thanks to Deep for the mod.

Stephen - Yep, I know what you mean but, in this case. it's deliberate. I wanted a small deer against the background - living next to Windsor Great Park makes it very easy to fill a frame with a deer or even just its head Smile Smile
If you're interested there are some full frame shots elsewhere in my pf

Cheers and thanks again

Works again very well, monochromatic tones add to the sense of survival.

A couple of suggestions.

It appears a little off level, - I could be wrong since I dont know the place, but if you use the fences as a gude its off. Its best to get them level as it will look better.

Theres an overall tone that doesnt let any of the snow appear white, so a little work can solve that issue, while retaining the shaded snow under the tree; I would crop space top and bottom, getting the Deer lower; though the overall image has rather high contrast, that far line of trees can benefit with a little more contrast on its own; lift the shadow detail to get some detail in the near tree; desaturate a little.

Loaded 2 mods, one as suggested, and the second with the branches removed. I like the frame effect they give, just wanted to see what removing them would be like.

Regards

Willie

Thanks Ron for the comment,

Willie, thanks again for taking the time.
As ever you're correct about the slope. there is actually a very slight hill going down from left to right and I've automatically allowed for it in my mind's eye. Now that you've pointed it out I need to get rid of it !!

Actually I've just levelled it and it just doesn't look right for me - I guess I need to decide if the image is for me to look at or for others who don't know the area !

The colour was odd - it was taken in murky conditions, late afternoon so the cast is natural. I'd left it in this version just out of curiosity to see what people thought without my mentioning it. I knew that you'd spot it though Smile I like what you've done with the first mod, especially the higher contrast on the far trees.

I've just played around using your mod as a guide and it's much better now. I left some of the haze on the far trees and a tiny bit of the murky colour which gives it some atmosphere but, overall, a huge improvement so thanks yet again.

I think the deer size is right for the intended feel. It is very much in the centre and possibly a little more rule or thirds would be better, but not bad as shown. There is a touch of a magenta cast - again, definately there but not too bad.

I like this picture a lot, but it did immediately strike me as murky even before reading the comments. With that and the slope sorted, must be super.
