I sincerely hope you do not expect of me to choose a Miss Shieldbug 2012. They are all beautiful whether dotted or plain Smile Excellent photos Carol !

I love shield bugs nearly as much as clangers, a great set of very photogenic critters.

Such fine symmetric colour detail in these bugs, almost like they have been hand painted. Great close up and thanks for sharing as it’s great to see different wildlife as not seen before. Cannot choose my favourite as all 4 are stunning.SmileSmileSmileSmile Bob

There is an endless variety of these shield bugs in nature. We had a small invasion of them right before I big freeze this year. We had so many come into the house that I had decided to photograph one of them against some oak tree bark. They were of mottled shades of grey - amazing camouflage capabilities. But then, the big freeze hit, and I haven't seen any since. Maybe a good thing.

Wishing you and yours a very Happy Christmas Carol.

Four fantastic close ups Carol with your hallmark of quality stamped all over them. The weather has been atrocious here, thankfully it is meant to be better tomorrow, so I'll be off to the rough council estate on the outskirts of town to photograph the huge flocks of waxwings that are feeeding on the berries there. It's a pity the Big O can't be there as he'd scare the local scallies and chavs away!WinkGrinTongue
