Early morning sunrise during the winter at Rothera Point on the Antarctic Peninsula. The sea ice was just starting to form with some pancake formations visible. I hand-held the camera rather than put it on a tripod as the air temperature was getting a bit nippy to be hanging around too long! The colours in winter are particularly intense during the winter months due to the low angle of the sun in the sky (i.e. this image has only had the contrast tweaked).

A superb sunrise image from a land I can only imagine and appreciate through images like this: the warm tones in the sky, clouds and reflected onto the ice contrasts so well with the cooler tones in the rest of the ice and distant mountains. What a visual delight (if not temperature) to experience first hand.
Ronnie.
For myself this is a reflection of a failed dream. Well before photography I wanted to be part of this place, but I didn't make the grade. How marvelous it is to be able to see it through the eyes of those like yourself. Thank you for a glimpse of the dream.
A very beautiful image, wonderful light. Must be blooming perishing there!
